What is Puppy GNU+Linux?
To be able to use (run) a computer operating system one may execute the following procedure.
How to run/start an operating system directly from an external storage device
- Acquisition
- acquire the computer operating system image file (with file extension .img or .iso) of the desired operating system, such as a recent Puppy Linux release (read Appendix 2);
- select an edition/flavour/spin/build of Puppy GNU+Linux to download (others available)
- Puppy Linux edition: trixiepup32 (for older machines)
- Puppy Linux edition: trixiepup64 (for newer machines only)
- Verification
- next, verify the authenticity of the downloaded file:
- Flashing/Writing
- next, flash/write the computer operating system image file (with file extension .img or .iso) to an external storage device:
- Connection
- next, ensure the external device is connected to the computer, usually via a USB port;
- Boot Sequence
- next, ensure that the U.E.F.I./B.I.O.S. firmware (low-level software that starts just prior to the operating system doing so) settings is configured to use the operating system that has been written to the external data storage device (i.e. follow the desired boot sequence):
- Power-Off
- next, ensure that the computer is put in a complete power-off state;
- Power-On
- next, power-on the computer, and voilá:
